BRITISH CHAMPIONS
1967: DENNY RINK
The first British champions from the district were the Denny rink pictured from left to right receiving the Scottish rink trophy: A Cruickshanks, James Adams (skip), J Logan and John Bradbury.
After defeating Ireland in the semi-final with the last bowl in an extra end, described by the Belfast Telegraph as "a very lucky shot" which "hit three others on its progress up the green", they went on to claim the title with a 22-16 victory over England.
John Bradbury and James Adams were also the first (and to date, only) players from District 10 to win the Scottish pairs in 1959.
1990: ELIZABETH WREN
Having won the Scottish outdoor championship in 1989 and the Scottish indoor championship in 1988 and 1990, Elizabeth Wren from Bonnybridge Bowling Club was "suprised and disappointed" to be snubbed by S.W.B.A. selectors.
Unperturbed, she claimed the British outdoor championship after beating England's Jean Baker 25-14.
"Not being selected for the Scottish trial made me all the more determined to succeed," she told the Falkirk Herald. "I felt that I had a point to prove. I think I've done that."
1998: KELLY DICKINSON
Laurieston Bowling Club's Kelly Dickinson (nee Wilson) won the district junior singles five years in succession from 1995 to 1999.
She became the first player to win the Scottish junior singles twice in 1995 and 1997 and the first Scot to win the British junior singles in 1998.
In the semi-final, she crushed England's Cheryl Northall 21-2 before pipping Ireland's Paula Montgomery 21-19 in the final.
2004: KAREN DAWSON
"I can't believe what I've done, and the games I played to win the title are just a blur," said Denny's Karen Dawson to the Daily Telegraph after requiring only ten ends to demolish Jersey's Gean O'Neil 21-5 in the final of the 2004 British singles.
Later that year, she reached the final of the World Bowls Champion of Champions where she was pipped in a tie-break by Ireland's Margaret Johnston.
Other notable successes include winning the Scottish mixed pairs twice with her clubmate Stuart Hogg; and the County Singles, County Champion of Champions and West of Scotland Singles in both 2023 and 2024 (pictured).
